I also remember a fact a lot of right wingers really hate to remember -- neither Bull Connor nor the other Dixiecrats were liberals. They were, in fact, the right wing of the Democratic party, and the voters that people like Ronald Reagan successfully courted following Reagans famous "states rights" speech in Neshoba.
