Science won't save us!
16/5/11 07:53"God is dead." --Nietzsche
"Nietzsche is dead." --God
Science is the newest idol to be worshipped. The latest incarnation of god humanity would build temples and shrines to, demanding supplication.
Throughout history old idols, old gods, have been replaced by the new. Old rationales and belief systems razed to make way for successive methodologies deemed more progressive.
Science is but the latest link in a form of methodological natural selection spanning human history...
It follows naturally adherants to the newborn scientific faith would endeavor to overturn traditionalism in favor of what they deem to be newer and more progressive precepts.
Like religion, science would presume to save us. It is not explicitly written within divinely inspired doctrine. Rather within the hearts and minds of those who expect scientific advancement to 'save us' from negative aspects of the human condition.
Within this sphere of influence, science relies upon blind faith to further its cause. We know not limits of science to further farm productivity or energy generation. With the world's population poised to reach 9 billion by 2050, projecting 50% greater food and energy requirements, we lack evidence determining whether science is equal to the task of solving these issues, peacefully.
We do as we have often done, putting our blind faith in a god to save us from our sins.
Science is our new god, and we must pray to him. We must build him temples and places of worship. We must revere scientists as we've previously revered saints and the pope and place our absolute faith in them to deliver the gospel of the almighty, as they are mouthpieces of divine inspiration who are above question.
We must worship science in blind faith and kneel before those scientists, who like prophets of old, would intercede in our favor before the almighty.
Only then can science deliver us from our sinful nature of overpopulation, excess and ignorance. Only then can scientific advancement create a new world where people are saved from poverty and sickness. And, only then can we overcome our own humanity and become gods, ourselves!
This is the role of science and the way in which humanity relates to it.
...
To be concluded in part II, maybe. (Depending on how negative the reaction to this post, is.)
