If we're going to be so tasteless as to play Who's the Greatest Mass Murderer of all time, Mao was the worst of the 20th Century by quantity, Pol Pot by proportion. Stalin killed 20 or so million over the period of 1929-1953, most of whom actually died because he had a reverse Midas Touch with military policy, leading to millions of senseless battlefield death, and his social policies were incompetent with the lethal variation of incompetence.
Where Hitler's total was actually *2 million more* and all of that in three years from the Wannsee Conference. There's a reason Nazi Germany overshadowed everything before them in Europe. Though it is interesting that people forget that the GDR continued the good tradition of totalitarianism auf Deutsch into the 1990s.....
