I am a Theocrat.  Everything would be much better if Malcolm-Jamal Warner were in charge.

I can't believe you would be so horribly insensitive to half-blind people.

Plus we have a pastor advocating a Theocracy,
*without* actually doing so.

Not hard

Obama is such a failure, that an actor/comedian could do a better job.

Weell, I'm a Christian Socialist, so I would not knock it entirely.

Even Communists have quoted Jesus and His apostles with approval, you know. god , in the OT and NT has quite a lot to say about the poor and how society should look after them.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, or even Karl Marx, I am not so sure of, but Jesus is definitely worth reading up on . As are the prophets in the OT if you want to hear some good political theory.

The Torah said the people were supposed to look after the poor and the widow -- not the government.

And what d'yer do when a majority of the people say "fuck the poor?" Or what d'yer do when a majority of the people are too poor to help the poor?

That's a very lovely thought, but the government does a better job.

I have to admit that's a pretty convincing argument, but one of the reasons governments are better is that they're less likely to discriminate than private charities. Try getting food and shelter as a transgendered homeless person sometime.

It was as supported as your previous assertion and current assertions.

The Torah enshrines looking after the poor and the widow in Law.

Deuteronomy 14 commands the people: not the government. In fact, the Levites were not paid, which is why the Torah commands the Levites be given a tithe.

Hmm... commanding the people... would that be what we call "a law"?

I disagree. We need only look at Iran to see what happens to a modern state that tries to create a purely theocratic state in the 21st Century. It works no better now than it has at any point since Emperor Theodosius.

Ah- but whose interpretation of God do we follow? The Muslim, or the Judeo- Christiam interpretation?

Go with the Muslims and you lose beer, wine and anything else alcoholic.
Go with Christianity and you get so much more that a decent drink :)

Even so, there are vast differences between the Christianity of fred Phelps and that of Minto Grubb, who gets his from the URC.

Which deity would that be?

As a theocrat, do you support governance of the priesthood of Moses, the priesthood of Peter, or that of some other messy-antic figure?

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
