Another aspect of the thing is that one could argue that a certain significant strain of political Zionism is itself anti-Semitic in effect because it'd happily throw away the whole moral, philosophical and cultural heritage of the diaspora for what amounts to a cheap 19th century European nationalism. If I had my library with me I'd go looking for the quote from one of the early secular Zionist writers that "to be a Zionist you have to be something of an anti-Semite".

Not to say that I agree or disagree, but it's a valid argument. It's complicated.
