Is this what the Democrats wanted for Trump to once again steal all the oxygen in the media room for weeks to come? This means every candidate will have to respond to the latest Trump tid bit. Didn't we do this in 2016?

I do admit it does take people's mind off inflation, gas prices (spiking again) out of control border, fentanyl deaths, all those school shootings and ever increasing crime. And a current president with a questionable grasp on reality. And yet?

I think this is exactly what most democratic strategists want. The more attention Trump claims now, the more alternative candidates like DeSantis will have to define themselves in contrast to, or alliance with, his 500-pound-gorilla ass.

The more that happens, the more the choice to his base looks like “do you want the real thing, or some watered down alternate?”

This is good news for those strategists because it pushes the Republican Party towards nominating Trump again, and if that happens, he will get his ass handed to him on a fucking platter in the next election. Because as much as his base wants revenge and a do-over, everyone else wants to be done with him, and has had four years of getting used to a government that isn’t flopping around like a decapitated chicken.

I would love to be certain that Trump will indeed have his backside handed to him on a platter, to be certain that any Republican with authoritarian/fascist mindset in place will suffer such a fate.

But it will have to be made certain.

There's no downside for Democrats here.

Republicans aren't wrong for thinking the case is weak, they're wrong for thinking the case being weak matters.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's the democrats so much as the media seemingly having an unrelenting love of covering Trump. So long as people either deeply love him or love to hate him, I think it will get views and there goes all the coverage.

Democrats are running a high risk/high reward strategy IMO if they want Trump as nominee again. On one hand, he is probably the easiest one for them to beat because he's a known quality, but on the other hand, people have terribly short memories, and I think a Biden/Trump showdown isn't going to excite people to vote the second time around, and Covid likely won't be a factor this time. It was close last time. I could easily see it tipping the other way, however much people assume Trump "can't" get elected again.

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
