Yeah, interesting idea when I ran into it on a first reading. I like the humanist focus. But Herbert never imagined the hybridization of code and communications technology that has given rise to things like social media. And since we've already got problems with verifying who's saying what, who's an authority, and who's being censored, smashing all our calculators and breeding funky drugged-up humans to replace them seems like a ... sub-optimal solution.
Whether such functions fall on the side of "usurping humans" or "basically a transport system but for words" is a subject of raging debate this very minute, but we're forging ahead anyway. :/
