17/1/21 22:17'I’m facing a prison sentence': US Capitol rioters plead with Trump for pardons
"Ryan said she had been “displaying my patriotism”, adding: “I listen to my president who told me to go to the Capitol.”"
But, but, he had nothing to do with it! Right?
In any case, don't worry dear rebels/patriots/real-Amurkins. Daddy Don has your backs... right? Oh wait.
Per himself from half a year ago:
"“Anarchists, Agitators or Protestors who vandalize or damage our Federal Courthouse in Portland, or any Federal Buildings in any of our Cities or States, will be prosecuted under our recently re-enacted Statues & Monuments Act. MINIMUM TEN YEARS IN PRISON. Don’t do it!"
Wait... what? Oh I get it. I guess the above only applies to anyone who doesn't worship him. These people here were true American heroes trying to save the Constitution (by revolting against it). Gawd. I'm loving this.
That said, IMO current and future Presidential pardons need to be reviewed by a bi-partisan group or by the Supreme Court. Anyone with me?

Date: 18/1/21 00:15 (UTC)I agree. All the pardons Trump has been giving to his cronies and family members is... a misuse of power.

Date: 18/1/21 18:10 (UTC)I mean the assault on the Capitol ended up with some "Patriots" stealing Pelosi's laptop to send to the Kremlin. So what can top that?
Will there be a nuclear accident that somehow vaporises all the non-patriots?
Has someone planted a store-room full of gunpowder under the Capitol, in a mad re-enactment of Guy Fawkes?
Will they release toxic anthrax spores on the populace of the Capitol?
Am I just too paranoid?
My mind reels at the possibilities.

Date: 19/1/21 16:31 (UTC)I'm thinking it should be outside of the current judicial system. Pardons are there for times when the judicial system fails to deliver justice. Okay, not every time, the assembly line version of plea bargaining where it's better to be rich than innocent fails to deliver justice on a grand scale, but pardons are there for some of the most ridiculous cases.
