Dear friends,
We are gathered here today to watch the GOP eat itself after decades of dog whistles, and veiled support for seditionist movements.
Grab a chair, grab a beer, and relax.
McConnell is said to be pleased about impeachment, believing it will be easier to purge Trump from the G.O.P.
Since it's paywalled, here's the essential part:
"Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country. At the same time, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the minority leader and one of Mr. Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he should call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of the riot at the Capitol last week, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations."
And I thought they would wait longer to distance from Trump. Hmmm. Now what is the House R leader going to do?
As for Mitch, I mean in case anyone was worried he'd be breaking up with the R base with this move... See, he's 79 years old (next month), after all. He was just elected to a six year term. He could care less about another term. He is also the most powerful man in the Republican party (a title Trump probably had three months ago, but that started fading with his election loss and evaporated last week). And, since Mr Toad has come to the recognition that Trump is toast, the rest will follow suit in a short manner.
As for the Don, my bet is on him leaving the country. He needs to find a nice quiet place away from the hustle, bustle, subpoenas and indictments of America. Possibly a place that doesn't have an extradition agreement with the US. The first ex-POTUS in exile. How's that sound? But where should he go? A nice old-style dacha in Crimea, perhaps? To be close to his buddy Vlad, who'll provide him with a ceaseless string of Russian dolls to do the pee-pee on his mattress? Heh. He heh.

Apprentice-style show where he picks who he gives his endorsement to.
The GOP will go along with it. They wont have a choice.
