I read an exchange of letters elsewhere by 2 members of the LGBTQ community, one of whom is an online acquaintance. These letters were written in response to a creative-writing instructors banning gay characters, among other petty things, from her institution. I then tried registering on her website, and received an email from her stating that my registration didn't go through and that she'd be glad to help me. So then I responded to her with an open letter of my own, inquiring about their discriminatory policy of banning people based on their sexuality, and apparently, ability. Her response? "Oh, we ban gay characters but not gays themselves." Turns out they also ban things like fantasy. C'mon now people this is America, the land of the free. I guess not according to some.
