Could someone who understands the US political system better than me (which isn't hard), answer this?

Trump is parading a government shut down, or at least a partial shutdown. This would mean that funding for the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department, and the Agriculture Department is would expire first.

Would that mean the Mueller Special Counsel investigation would one of the first things shut down?

That would be smart, would it not? Almost like Jared Kushner's desperate legislative activity, pushing to limit jail time in the future. ;-)

The way I understand it - in a government shutdown, the government doesn't shut down at all. Seems it's an extremely exaggerated term the two parties use to keep us interested/scared.

The government will continue taking taxes out, and our rich politicians (and Mueller) will continue fucking it away - no need to worry about them.

The guy/gal working the counter at the rest stop might be in for an uncomfortable week or two, but I think we're all about to find out how insignificant a government shutdown is.

It won't stop the Mueller team's work, and I am grateful for that.

You know, I have been wondering kinda the same thing although on a somewhat larger scale. In other words, what all is affected by these shut downs? It's rather ironic that during the last US government shut-down I had just ordered refills on some meds, and just a few days ago I had to do it again. But last time the meds arrived right on schedule, so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the same will be true and I'll get them the day after Christmas. I'm registered with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, and while nothing new will probably be added patrons who use the online service will still be able to access our Wish Lists.

The term shutdown is a mirage used by people who should know better for PR purposes. The Mueller team is one of the things that isn't affected by this shutdown. Government employees have been fucked over for raises again by this Administration, though that's day ending in y stuff.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
