When 11,000 scientists from 153 countries make a statement, it can't just be the Chinese conspiring to make America's economy bad again. No, it means things have become rather serious. It is not just hysteria, Greta Thunberg style, nor is it celebrity hype, Leo DiCaprio style (or rather, the two combined). ELEVEN THOUSAND scientists are now saying there is very little time left to reverse things about climate change. And there are still plenty of people who are keeping their heads buried in the sand (and some whose heads are in the pockets of various corporate interests).
The big warning comes in an open letter published in the BioScience journal, and this is not some emoting. It is the conclusion from research spanning 40 years and involving many more tens of thousands of researchers. All reviews of the developments from the last decades now categorically conclude that climate change has reached the point of a global disaster, and it is now at the brink of becoming irreversible. The bad news is that these changes now seem to be more serious and more accelerated than previously anticipated. It may not be the end of the world, or of humankind, or of human civilisation, but it is bound to drastically disrupt the latter nevertheless.
