Greetings, all U home-fixated Americentrics curious citizens of the world! Now I'mma occupy you with a more general subject, if not as abstract as you might've imagined from a first sight. A recent post about the protests in Turkey/Brazil made me thinking. What if we asked people the question, "Show me one politician who has entered the Parliament with honest intentions"? Well, some who we'd hasten to call extremists, might mention the name of one Guy Fawkes - if not for anything, just because in 1605 he tried to blow the British Houses of Parliament to smithereens, along with their royal majesties, the God-anointed family, and all the MPs in it. The attempt failed miserably, and Fawkes was of course hanged, and his body duly dismembered, which is how any civilized democracy treats its traitors.
But today his trademark mask, you know, the one with the sly smile and the thin mustache, has turned into a global symbol of resistance against authority in all its established forms. It's no coincidence that the (in)famous hacker group Anonymous has adopted that image as its main symbol. The mask is now an inseparable part of all protests that've come into the media focus in recent times. Turns out that people from all corners of the world, even in some "unexpected" locations, are sharing a similar anger and disdain for their rulers. And they're insisting for a change. Maybe just "change in general", you might say. But even so...
