It's here, the night you've all been waiting for...

Ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. You probably haven't been looking forward to this at all.

You've likely been dreading it, but because -

a) you're into politics
b) this is the most uneventful night of the week
c) you're a masochist
d) you can't find a better time or way to dispose of that 3 liter box of wine
e) some or all of the above

- you will be tuning in. If it's already happened, what'd you think? If it's happening now, what are you thinking? If it hasn't happened yet, what do you think you'll be thinking? If you want to comment on the Democrat response, or the River Monsters marathon, or your true feelings for me - no one is stopping you.

I'm skipping it. DT-45 has provided enough nightmare fodder.

I think, for what it’s worth, he made the best of his abilities and said things which will resonate with his constituency. Given the worldwide lurch towards fascism I fully expect Trump to be both impeached and re-elected. It’s after all the only narrative big enough for the Donald this side of being the POTUS that pushed his big Armageddon button.

Quite a standard speech. His teleprompter worked well this time.

Before going any further with this, let me say that I'm commenting prior to reading all other comments only because of time. Well that and perhaps the sheer suspense of it all. But having said that, my neighbor across the way had me over to his place as he frequently does, and we both watched the address on the big screen. I won't speak for him but I wasn't expecting much if anything at all from this address. I know that President Trump was going off his teleprompter, because my neighbor informed me of that fact right at the start of the speech. I thought that what President Trump said was pretty positive, but as with everything that's gone on thus far throughout this Presidency it was just a bunch of propaganda. I had to leave towards the end of it to take my bedtime medications, but at some point I may try and look for the address online if only for the laughs.

That was the most boring SOTU speech I have ever seen.

I never watch the SOTU. Nor do I read it. Jefferson isn't my favorite president, but I think about the SOTU he was right and every president until perhaps our worst president, Woodrow Wilson, agreed. Presidents should return to the sober and republican practice of sending a letter to the Congress, updating them on the SOTU from the executive's perspective and then get back to work. It is too grandiose and in the modern era of TV, almost completely void of any substance.

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
