Just got an email from the ol' folks in Orange county. they're trying to get 200 people together for a screening. Interesting in getting one going on your own? call Frank - 714-397-4040
though it often does not work as intended, checks and balances are necessary in any system. what ron paul proposes is unchecked capitalism; i give the benefit of the doubt to most of its adherents and assume they believe it's for the best for everyone, removing checks entirely is basically inviting corporate monopoly of every industry. we've been getting closer and closer to that anyway, what with the recent assaults on campaign finance law, but if you remove government power from the equation, you are removing something that can be used both for or against corporate control.
with no public services available, even the flow of information would be regulated not by a constitution but the whim of a few. say anything against your employer on a blog? your actions and information could easily be leaked to said employer. expect the news to inform you of a harmful product on the market? not if the right phone calls are made, the right pockets lined if necessary.
Ron Paul (and right leaning libertarians in general) advocate several policies that are poison pills:
- Market fundamentalism - the mistaken belief that the only way to handle any problem is via the magic invisible hand of the all powerful Market, amen, coupled with the absurd notion that government is the root of all evil - would lead to increased corporate power without even the token resistance of the eviscerated Post-Bush/Clinton federal government.
- Military/Geopolitical protectionism. For good or ill, the US is the center of an empire. Pulling back our troops from across the globe would, in most cases, cause power vacuums or leave unchecked important threats such as N. Korea. The ensuing chaos would not only cause a world war as everyone scrambles to grab the relinquished power, but crash whats left of the already unstable global economy.
- Too small of federal government and advocacy of secession. Balkanization ensues. The resulting incredibly weakened entity would be powerless to defend itself against foreign aggressors and manipulators. See 1, 2. End of United States.
She's been warned before and is getting her last warning. The only reason I'm leaving this up is a.) as a point of reference and b.) some of the replies are priceless.
Is it a bad thing, that just seeing the Ron Paul shirt is already enough to make me pass on watching the video. Ya seen it once, you've seen it 100 times. *sigh*
