Neural wave machines FTW!

The Pentagon Wants To Put This In Your Brain

The U.S. military wants to build a brain modem that allows you to control objects by willpower.

No need for soldiers to use virtual reality to control drones, seems like there's a forthcoming 2016 Darpa-backed Pentagon Implantable Neural Interface Brain Modem in the making. Obviously, there's still a long way to go with it, like finding the right bio-compatible device that'd be small enough to slip into the brain, but these aspirations bring us closer to truly merging with technology, as the transhumanist proponents among the futurists like Michio Kaku have advocated.

Will this be the next evolution in humans, implants that grow and become part of the human brain, along with all the bionic limbs, exoskeletons, artificial hearts and other gadgets? This neural engineers systems design, NESD is in rapid development, so there's a lot of news to be expected from this area of cutting-edge science and technology.

Of course, the fact that it's the military who've been driving progress in this area (as in many others, in fact) is no surprise. The Pentagon's efforts to create a super-soldier - and thus change the future of the battlefield (along with all the drone and remote-control technology that's already in place) are a logical stage of development of warfare, and by extension, the related technology. As has happened often throughout history, scientific achievements do tend to be driven by the desire to find more efficient ways to blow up stuff and eliminate rivals - before subsequently getting transferred into everyday life, and transforming society (the Internet arguably being one such example).

By the way, a new book about the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) says that wounded soldiers returning from campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq are already having computer chips implanted in their brains to help them heal. So there.

In a nutshell, thanks Obama!
