Having seen the Okavango delta and the waterfalls on the Zambezi, I thought there couldn't possibly be a more spectacular river that could be seen on planet Earth. Well, seems that I had been wrong. Nature never fails to amaze with its wonderful magic. Several cases in point:

1. Odeleite River, Portugal

2. Li, Guangxi Province, China

3. River of five colors or Caño Cristales, reserve Macarena, Colombia

4. Alatna River, USA

5. Soca, Slovenia, Italy

6. Zambezi, Africa

7. Yangtze River, China

8. “Heart”, North Dakota, United States

9. “Horseshoe”, Colorado, United States

10. Amazon River, South America

11. Lena River, Russia

12. Futaleufú River, Argentina, Chile

13. Hudson, United States

14. The Danube, the European Union

15. Mississippi, United States

My fave river: Jökulsárlón is a glacial lake which has formed where a glacier river meets the ocean. In winter, the walls of ice are stuck at the river mouth and have formed a natural barrier. In summer, the river flows almost freely into the sea. Occasionally, large sheets of ice would plummet into the lake, causing a loud explosion sound. Part of the water oozes through the ice walls, especially in spring when the river is the most powerful (mind you, "spring" comes rather late in South-East Iceland). The whole landscape is like taken from a surrealist paintain, only it's in motion - and the constant cracking gurgling sound is mesmerising.

Surprisingly, there's wildlife (geese and other birds) even in a place as frozen as this.

"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
