Oooo, can't wait for the new season of Vikings later this month.

I don't know if the producers will deck out several New York City subway cars with Vikings stuff like they did last year, but it was awesome ;)

Surprised Medieval China doesn't rate a mention since the Chinese experience of the Song and Tang dynasties is the polar opposite of the European experience, including spearheading much of the technology that made Europe's later empires possible. That this happened in an absolute monarchy would raise some interesting questions about Jared Diamond-like theses on innovation. Or for that matter medieval India and its strand of see empire rise see empire fall incidents.
