Liberal supporters of American military intervention for reasons of spreading the light of "democracy" beyond the frontiers of the fifty states would think twice after reading the tale of Osama bin Laden's chauffeur as recounted by Jonathan Mahler. It is a story of how morally bankrupt the system of American justice truly is. How an individual reacts to the case determines where they stand in the broad spectrum of Bushism.

Hard core Bushites see the man as an example of terror incarnate. To allow such a vicious and dastardly scoundrel the smallest iota of judicial process constitutes the spinelessness of weak-kneed policy. To even criticize the way that the military treated the poor creature constitutes a treasonous betrayal of the pristine institution of American benevolence.

What is your opinion of the matter? Should people of the ilk of bin Laden's loyal and trustworthy chauffeur be treated as if they were personally responsible for bombing New York? Should we Americans be proud of our government's inability to uphold the basic principles of human dignity when it comes to handling bit players in the larger game between the House of Saud and the House of Bush?
