Forgive me if I've mentioned this before, but I'm guessing that you would appreciate A Woman Under the Influence (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072417/), which I would argue is also about the phenomenon of the 'identified' or 'designated' patient. It's a personal favourite of mine.
