Everyone needs a good laugh from time to time, and a reminder that this life is fleeting and we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously - unless it concerns the lives of real people in a real and profound way. Then things get serious. And the PPD had plenty of opportunity to make an impact, and every time they somehow botched it. I give it mostly to inexperience, but many other movements of this sort have found a tremendous proneness to learn fast from their mistakes, while the PPD have not. Maybe it's a cultural thing, and Germans in general like to do things in a slower, but deeper way. And all of this is just happening too fast for them to assimilate.
