And Overton has so confused the meaning of the word "socialism" that it's now applied to things that mere decades ago would have been considered free-enterprise. Anything to the left of "fuck you, I've got mine" is now considered on par with Stalinistic tyranny. I wager that somewhere, deep down (or not so deeply) the adherents of this mindset know how absurdly extreme it has become: why else the need for the laughable comforting lies that selfishness somehow, magically, leads to egalitarian outcomes?
