Buddhist statue found by Nazis made from meteorite

The Aryan race, the mythical Atlantis, the swastika, and an ancient statue whose price could reach astronomic proportions - oh my!

Sounds like an Indiana Jones episode. Well, except this one is not fiction. In the late 30s a German expedition sent by the maniacal Hitler returned from Tibet with this unique artifact. Today it turns out it was far more unique than they thought. And not because of the swastika, but because of the material it was made of. The new analysis shows it was made of meteorite stone!

Most of us have probably watched a few documentaries about occult Nazi mysticism and Hitler's obsession with the Aryan race, Atlantis, Tibet and ancient relics. He personally instructed Heinrich Himmler to send the expert ethnologist Ernst Schäfer to Tibet in search of the sources of the "Aryan culture". Apparently he was desperate to prove that the Aryan race is superior to all other races because it is a direct descendant of the legendary Atlanteans, the lost civilisation whose last remnants had found refuge somewhere in Tibet.

When Schäfer returned to Germany with this 24 cm, 10 kg statue of Buddha (Vaisravana), the Nazis were ecstatic. Well, we now know that actually the swastika was an ancient Buddhist symbol with its own meaning for the local culture, mostly a sign for harmony and happiness, and it has nothing to do with any of that nonsense that the Nazi propaganda machine invented.

After WW2 the statue became part of a private collection. It wasn't until 2009 that the scientists managed to gain access to it by way of an art auction. Its price was modest, $20,000. But when Buchner explored the artifact, he realised the stone had a lot of iron and nickel in it. He connected the dots and found out that it was made of a fragment of the Chinga meteorite, whose remnants had sprinkled all over Siberia and Mongolia more than 15 thousand years ago. It is probably the first known artifact made out of meteorite material (unless we want to make the stretch and include the Wonderstone spheroids mentioned by Michael Cremo in his Forbidden Archeology). And now its price will skyrocket.

Of course, now we should be prepared to hear all the new conspiracy theories about Aryan Nazi Martians planting an ancient Atlantean civilization on Earth in deep antiquity. A fascinating read, by any means! =)

that's clearly an alien astronaut. You can see his helmet, his pressure suit, and he's holding his, uh, control rod, there...

Ironically this is one of the reasons that Hitler actually considered Indians and Tibetans to be Aryans in terms of Nazi 'racial ideology', which means that the man was even weirder than people give him credit for. I find it interesting, too, that people in the West tend to not realize that swastikas are Hindu and Buddhist symbols, and that as such they are the real Aryans who can use this as a symbol of the Aryans. After all when you're speaking the Indo-Aryan languages........

Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Goodrick-Clarke) wrote the standard academic texts on this sort of stuff. The two I can recomend ( being in my library) are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Occult_Roots_of_Nazism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Occult_Roots_of_Nazism)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sun_(Goodrick-Clarke_book) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sun_(Goodrick-Clarke_book))

Better than having to wade through all of that Savitri Devi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savitri_Devi) stuff first hand, anyway. (Though of course, being me, I had to.)

Is it just me, or does the halo around Buddha's head resemble that around Christian saints? And that's not the only similarity between the Eastern faiths and Christianity - starting from the fable of the messiah resurrected, born of immaculate conception, etc etc.

And yes, the swastika was long used by Buddhists before the Nazi's used it and pretty much ruined it forever.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
