Australian Senator, Cory Bernardi, today resigned from his position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Opposition Leader for comments he made last night in the Senate and then repeated this morning on national radio.

The comments were:

There are even some creepy people out there . . . who say that it is OK to have consensual sexual relations between humans and animals . . . will that be a future step [if we legislate to permit marriage equality]

Bernardi is notorious for inflammatory comments. Last year, he made comments in support of xenophobic Dutch politician, Geert Wilders.

Treasurer Wayne Swan called Bernardi's comments 'disgraceful' and then proceeded to vote against the legislation.

In short, xenophobic comments about Muslims aren't enough to warrant a reprimand, but homophobia is only unacceptable when it comes to comparisons with bestiality?

Oh honestly. Just for that I shall manage some outrage.

Oz is one of the most important members of the English logosphere, coining words, minting phrases, and generally having as much, if not more, frontier spirit as the US in all measures of thing. And irritatingly for a country with a population of just over 20 mill, they overachieve in almost all areas. I think it's because, like the British and the Americans, they are essentially criminal by nature. And brave too.

Please accept a slap on the wrist and ten seconds on the naughty step. :)

Only from Western Europe. They're sort of sideways down from North America.

But for realzies, the only reason Brits, Americans and Aussies are "successful" is simply because they stole entire continents and took everybody's stuff. It's sort of how history works.

At the time we didn't see it as stealing…we were just out-competing them: I wonder if criminals ubermenschen eccentric individualists criminals respect property law? Well, none they don't enforce themselves, obviously: I mean to say, honour among thieves and all that, what.

The fate of Australian Aborigines and a reference to Australia taking over from North America as the dumping ground for the UK's criminals.

Throughout recorded time Australians have been known for their predilection for shagging sheep in a heterosexual way.

Sounds like a party problem - if Australians are anything like Americans then they're generally xenophobic AND homophobic, so it's a matter of which one loses them the most votes.

Geert Wilders' party has already lost half their seats in parliament, showing that they've been clueless all this time. It was pretty obvious all along that Dutch people in general are just not that interested in the fate of foreigners one way or the other.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
