Ok, so WTF. Romney announced Ryan, wupeddee-do-da.

Curious, I am, as to how many of you heard Romney announce him as next President?
OK, harmless little flub.

Oddly enough, Obama made the same mistake with Biden in 2008.
That's a really REALLY odd mistake to make, IMO. You should be VERY aware of where you are, what you're saying and what you're doing when you are announcing your VP. But WHATEVER.

It's a silly small flub. What bothers the FUCK out of me is the following:

http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7417814n

CBS has the video footage of Romney announcing VP. It has, as was, him saying "the next President, Paul Ryan!" and it says that he quickly corrected himself. Now that's fine. What is NOT fine is ABC. Fuck you ABC.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/romney-names-paul-ryan-vp-nominee/story?id=16807200#.UCrAu1ZlREM

They went right ahead and edited the video so Romney is heard saying "the next vice-president, Paul Ryan!"

This sorta shit makes me lose faith in media.
That ABC clip looks and sounds pretty damn good. Now how the fuck do I know the next time I'm watching ABC they didn't alter the clip....
It's a lack of faith. And faith in the media is a must. But tis gone. And society shall crumble as a result.

Fuck you ABC.

I'm curious, when you first heard, did you hear about Romney's slip?
Why do you think he made it? Obama, my buddies tell me, may have made a Fruedian slip--subconsciously he assumed he'd get assassinated as first black president, and Biden would take over.
Doesn't make as much sense for Romney, so what gives?

As most things about this election, we furrinnerz heard about it here (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-august-13-2012/democalypse-2012---welcome-twilight-fans--this-is-a-topical-comedy-show-edition) first. ;-)

The funnier part was how they both had to walk the long walk down those stairs... and then the other stairs... and the other.

How dare you ...

My thought is who gives a damn about either case? It's a slip of the tongue, no more and no less. There are much bigger issues to worry about than this. Like Ryan's farcical budget and his proudly embracing the ideology that turns "Fuck you, I got mine, go DIAF" from a vulgar satire of a political attitude to the highest, most noble virtue, and Romney's incapability to adhere to an idea if scrapping it altogether is politically expedient. A spineless idea-less consumate politician yoked to an adherent to an ideology rooted on crappy sci-fi novels v. Bush up to 11 and a walking gaffe machine. *That* is the issue. Not a mutual slip of the tongue which if either bite the bullet as per the law of succession actually is a technical truth.

If you re-read the OP, he was not upset about Romney's slip of the tongue, but about the edit.

You didn't listen to the ABC clip all the way to minute 7 apparently.

The flub is there.

This story still doesn't matter because the flub is not newsworthy except for a chuckle. What ABC did was leave it in the context of the entire speech so it doesn't "pop" out as more important than Mr. Romney having chosen his running mate.

NBC alters the Zimmerman clip to create a negative effect.

ABC alters the Romney clip to skip a meaningless slip.

Your time's better spent criticizing NBC.

I heard about the flub but from somebody's blog. My professors in college told me not to watch tv news, so I usually don't.

I still hold to the belief that Romney introduced Ryan that way because he believes he'll die in office.

The Republican Party will surely say it was taken out of context, but I think Romney deeply feels that Ryan would make a better President.

All year, Romney has been hearing "Ladies and gentlemen, the next President of the United States" said as an introduction for himself at his own campaign events. He's probably heard it so many times that the words have become meaningless. Kind of like a prayer that you repeat each Sunday, or the pledge of allegiance, something that you are in such a habit of saying that you don't actively pay attention to what the words mean as you say them. That's what I attribute the flub to.

But yeah, the ABC edit is troubling. I'm sure they probably think it doesn't sway the meaning so it doesn't matter, but that seems like a curious journalism decision. The clip should show what happened, not what was intended to happen.

Watch the video to minute 7. What they did was play the entire introductory speech by Mr. Romney.

The ABC video is of the entire introduction of Mr. Ryan, not just the flub.

The flub is there -- towards the end of Mr. Romney's speech at minute 7.

Altering the record is to journalism as altering data is to science. If they were a real news organization, the editors would be fired.
