A charismatic minister approached the first person in line. "What ails you?"
The man responded, "I have been blind since birth."
The minister placed his hand on the man's eyes and said, "I heal you in the name of the Father, in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit."
The man yelled out, "Praise the Lord, I can see."
The minister moved to the next man in line, "Why do you suffer?" A woman with him indicated that he has been deaf since birth. The minister placed his hands on the man's ears and chanted the same magic mumbo jumbo.
"Praise the Lord, I can hear."
As the minister approached the third man in line a woman blocked his way. She said, "Keep your grubby mitts off my son. He has schizophrenia and he's on SSI."

Date: 18/5/12 21:44 (UTC)Unrelated to the suck of this particular post, I just finished a book about failure to understand a chaos narrative, misdiagnosis, ECT and the cluster fuck that psychiatry can become for those who have plenty o' cash to have their brains fried for diseases they don't have (though the author seems pretty sanguine with his current life despite a couple of psychiatrists failing him, much as I do). Ned Zeman's The Rules of the Tunnel. I meant to post this as a potential read for you in your last post dealing that mentioned ECT but I found myself vacuuming the stairs. I think it would be relevant to your interests.

Date: 19/5/12 15:28 (UTC)Yeah, parents just love that helpless feeling when they can't do anything about their children's mental problems. the heartbreak when they consider their children's limited futures, the sheer terror that their children will do something to hurt themselves.
Taking care of disabled children is so simple and easy and you get paid for it. NOT
It's ironic that the suggested cure here should be faith healing, which is also called medical neglect.
