If you can find farther in the tax record than 1970, I'd be delighted to hear it. Emmanuel Saez had a hell of a time getting data back to the twenties, and it's still pretty threadbare after a shitton of serious work. So while it can be used in very narrow constraints, it's not particularly robust.
