Another Republican lawmaker made an inflammatory and stupid comment about abortion, this time raising Ye Olde "Women will falsely cry rape" tripe to "make a case." To me these comments illustrate a fundamental lack of comprehension about women's issues in general and abortion in particular on the part of so-called social conservatives, and this also continues to illustrate a pattern where social conservatism is long on emotional sucker-punches and short on policy. Your thoughts?

so...Republican lawmakers in Idaho are allowed to make loose comments on this topic because these loose comments closely parallel their personal beliefs.

my question is, why hasn't any opposing party, to date, in the State of Idaho yet developed a sound enough counter argument to change the cultural thought in that region? ....once a culture changes it's thought-trends, then its politics soon follow suit....

IMHO because Idaho's had a long history of a relatively powerful set of fringe populations to a point where it's much more culturally acceptable to come up with assclownery like this there than elsewhere. Idaho IIRC is one of the states where it's kind of the norm (like South Carolina for the South).

Say you want an abortion but the only legal way to get one is to claim rape. You'd have to be stupid not to make the claim because illegal abortion may be life threatening. So now that this is happening make a new law to remove the excuse. This is a bad law solving a problem created by a bad law.
