In my opinion this guy's superiors should all be dishonorably discharged without pensions, as this kind of FUBAR can't happen without everybody in this guy's vincinity dropping the ball at the same time. This is both disgusting and entirely indefensible. And as this has followed the pissing on corpses incident, the Quran-burnings, and now this, I think there needs by this point to be an investigation of why the discipline breakdowns keep happening and in a real sense are escalating. It seems that there is something rotten in this particular Denmark.

So it's a WAR, nobody must forget. You "think different" when at war. It is easy to condemn while sitting on the chair in air-conditioned atmosphere at home sweet home...watching TV

But in any case -if it is a true - it is IMHO a WAR CRIME. They were without guns, the poor victims, weren't they?

It isn't a war. It's an occupation.

You know how hard it is sitting in a compound with fast-food joints and swimming pools and gyms?!

War is bad thing with or without pools and gyms

Running around and playing hide-and-go seek with an enemy consisting entirely of small-arms squads (half-assed ones at that) is more like kindergarten war than actual war.

That's it. But the guns and shots are REAL. There's no difference for people - wich kind of war is it. The bombs are real, the bullets are real.

Of course US soldiers are much more defended. They have tanks, choppers, modern guns. They are professionals. Aphgans are poor fellahs.

That's not true. I went through it, and it wasn't that big of a deal. There's a huge difference involved between occupying and COIN, and general warfare. The difference comes out in the numbers. A lot less people dead, mostly.

I understand. The catch is that for those "little numbers" the warfare was damn real.

I have seen a few reports stating that it was not one soldier but several drunk and laughing ones.

Here's one:

Anything goes because it's a war, and as we all know, in a war people think different. We have no right to complain because we're not there.

Right?

It's always funny when people say that, like the other soldiers in the same area aren't pissed off too... like all the other people "who were there man" who condemn it. Man, man you can't judge man, because like, it's real hard sitting on post for 8 hours a shift, for 6 months straight man, Afghanistan is so hard man, you just get so bored, so we can't judge if someone goes out and kills people for fun! Not until you've wasted 12 months of your life schlepping Humvees back and forth across the highlands, and sitting in watch towers and living in trailers... man you can't judge man!

So THIS is why they set Deliverance in North Georgia...

You "think different" when at war.

At the risk of sounding like a Dirty F%$#ing Hippie, this is why war is bad and I generally advocate against fighting them.

I don't know if this is true of you, [livejournal.com profile] al_lex_ey, but I have noticed the pattern that folks most hesitant to judge the conduct of wars are also least hesitant about engaging in them.

Man, I was a soldier. I was a Soviet soldier. I was sent to Afghanistan but than my detachment was sent to another point of destination. I hate people who like killing for fun... killing unarmed people. IF IT IS TRUE - IT IS A CRIME. The problem is that you never know in Afghanistan who is in front of you - a boy or a rebel. That thing was in Vietnam too.

So? Hippies were wright, man

Nah, hipsters are the new hippie apparently.

It makes invalidating someone's view point seem fresh despite basically using the same tactics used since the 60's.

It's kind of, you know, ironic.

IMHO judgement rests on the American government that help start continue the war and all the people that were waving sabers around post 911. We were all there when it started, it was only a matter of time before it got this far, and it'll continue to go farther.

Suppose this type of massacre was being committed by a country aside from the NATO/G8 countries the international community would be screaming for humanitarian intervention and immediate discharges. Wait, but then again, they are just a bunch of Afghans, who cares, right?

Sick world we live in.

That's all fine and good, but in my experience, people that call for the deployment of nuclear weapons don't entirely realize the implications and consequences of doing so, let alone anything you just said.

My icon was something I put together in Illustrator, it started as an illustration for a mock 40's/50's newspaper advertisement and later became a sort of logo for various stuff I put together on Second Life, as "Rimpala Industries." I kind of have an affinity for retro-themed graphic arts and design. For example I have a very small collection of old Time magazines that were published during WW2.

I made it my userpic because I find it amusing. It both embodies a "Rat Pack" persona the character has taken on and at the same time it has a sort of sleazy used car dealer look to it. I'm sure plenty of people mistake me for a Republican too lol.

It would do some of those people good to go on Google Earth and search for Castle Bravo or Nevada Test Range. Physically you can destroy whole islands with those things and permanently alter a desert landscape that is larger then most cities. And that is just the visual damage left behind that still shows up today, nuclear bombs are not something to play around with...

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
