Reminds me of a book by Olaf Ihlau and Walter Mayr, "Mine Field Balkans". Pretty fascinating stuff. They depict the Balkans as a very complex place, a nest of ancient cultures and short-neck machos at the same time. A place of many contradictions and paradoxes. It's fascinating to know that there's such a place just next door that most people here haven't explored too well. And I mean they do go on vacations on your awesome beaches and winter resorts but I doubt they catch even a tiny glimpse of the real Balkans. And I wish they did that before hurrying to judge.
