Posted with utter seriousness, we are now in the Year of the Dragon on the Chinese Calendar.

I didn't read more deeply on what he said, and whether he said anything about China, but this could be the year that the center of the Global Economic World shifts to China, or at least that everyone figures it out. This would quite likely cause the effects that are mentioned in your post.

In particular, I'm still placing wagers that a whole lot of American investors have gone the wrong way on Chinese Solar, and LDK Solar, in particular. If the shift happens from conventional energy to alt-energy, then this is another change that could decimate US markets.

So, two shifts that I see happening soon are Alt Energy from Conventional (which involves flow of wealth to Chinese Interests), and a overall shift of economic power from the US to China.

Interesting, would that also lead to some shift of political/ideological paradigms, where the Chinese "model" (whatever that's supposed to mean) would start be viewed more favourably. I mean if the economic shift that you're talking about continues, the Chinese would have some pretty strong ammo for their propaganda.

China isn't the centre of the global economic world? Without them the West would be eating dirt right now.

I simply adore gloom and doom scenarios. They make for lucrative Hollywood fare.

A while back, some traditional investors took a peek at some of our technical accomplishments. One of them said, "Sell everything!" It warmed the cockles of my heart.

Soros is a rich nut, about as connected to reality as his "evil" counterparts, the Koch Brothers. I'm not saying violent revolution can never happen in America...that's how we got started, after all. We've been through far, far worse than this current recession and survived. And people tend to forget that America did just fine, relatively speaking, in the days before we were a superpower. We'll survive if China or India surpasses us in that dubious distinction.

(Though like I've said before, Koch Industries' headquarters in Wichita *is* a sinister building from which emanates an aura of palpable paranoia. Seriously, I know people who've done contract work there, and the place is basically guarded like Fort Knox, the company is so utterly paranoid about "espionage" and 'sabotage.")

Problem is, if the Dollar collapses, then we're in worse shape than we ever have been. Back in the day you could still go out and shoot some food. No longer. An Energy shock today would throw off all of the fundamentals that keep our Economy functioning.

This has been invariably predicted so much that I have lost any expectation it would ever actually happen. The USA's political system does not lend itself easily to that kind of thing.

by far the way coolest answer.

DAILY QUOTE:
"The NATO charter clearly says that any attack on a NATO member shall be treated, by all members, as an attack against all. So that means that, if we attack Greenland, we'll be obligated to go to war against ... ourselves! Gee, that's scary. You really don't want to go to war with the United States. They're insane!"
