Those OWS Terrorists

Back in 2009, there was a slight flurry on the Internet over an online game – “2011: Obama’s Coup Fails.” It was (and apparently, still is,) a right wing gamer’s wet dream narrated with “future” news stories that include Ted Nugent attacking an ACORN youth rally: “the children were spared but all others were slaughtered…”

Now that 2011 is winding down without Obama dissolving the legislative branch of government, declaring himself “the last Imam” and executing Glenn Beck, it’s interesting to note that the closest thing to Ted Nugent’s imaginary conservative attack on a youth group took place in Norway and did not involve sparing the children.

The same fan base that enjoy “Obama’s Coup Fails” may be lured away by a more up-to-date, gripping and upscale roleplaying games that looks like it could fulfill their “kill-the-progressives” needs. Judging from two of the trailers, “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots” depicts bloodthirsty American domestic terrorists echoing OWS rhetoric before doing things like strapping a bomb to a CEO and hurling him out of a skyscraper window.

“You really had to cash in on everyone else getting foreclosed, didn’t you?’” asks another terrorist before pointing a knife at the player character’s bound and gagged wife and threatening to “field dress her like a deer.”

In real life OWS has so far been the target rather than the perpetrator of violence, what with demonstrators being pepper-sprayed, beaten, thrown in jail, etc.

Looks like an interesting game. I’m curious about whether at any point it deals with an existing example of domestic terrorism in this country – anti-abortion bombings, assaults and homicides.

It's possible that I'm thinking of another human rights commission entirely, but wasn't that more about how they were interested in seeing war-based video games that take into consideration things like certain actions counting as war crimes toward the player character?

Sorta like how LA Noire penalized you if you went about running over innocent civilians and you were given a lower score for driving recklessly, as opposed to how those actions are normally encouraged in a game like GTA or Saint's Row.

Come on. It's the Red Cross that wanted to claim that playing video games is a war crime. They never prosecuted under that belief. The UN Human Rights Commission never condemned violent video games.

Do you have a point to make, or a question to raise or is this just a few paragraphs meant to insinuate that there is some despicable group that has a monopoly on violent fantasies and games in dubious taste? Then there was the "peaceful" Davis protestors who surrounded the police and chanted "Set them free and we'll let you go". Totally peaceful. "Fuck the police from Davis to Greece" was a nice added touch.

When was this? The closest incident I'm aware of to this is a video of the students at Davis chanting "You can go" to the police after the cops had pepper-sprayed peaceful protestors. Don't recall them surrounding the cops or threatening them in that video.

I'm always impressed that the conservative groups that tend to embrace the historical importance of the 2nd Amendment in order to justify why everyone should have guns on them 24/7 if they choose to do so also get the vapors anytime someone [liberal/progressive/centrist] is openly protesting or disgruntled/hostile toward authority.

OWS isn't european, it's distinctly american--even if it borrows the tactic (occupying public spaces) that came from the middle east, OWS isn't in europe, and the pics there from europe show just how hard the right wing wants to kill this.

they'll take pics from another continent and use it to slam people in NYC or Boston...
