How about these guys?

Anouk Teeuwe, or just Anouk. Awesome performer from Holland! Satindra Kalpoe, the drummer of Anouk's band, is a close friend. Been to several backstage rehearsals before their gigs in NL. Anouk ROCKS!

[Error: unknown template video]

Also, Dinand Woesthoff, frontman of Dutch rock band Kane. They were at the top of the wave back in the late 90s (the zenith of the TMF music channel, etc). I knew him through a common acquaintance with Guusje Nederhost, may she rest in peace...

And you?

I've met several: Hulk Hogan, Snoop Dogg, Jason Alexander, Morrissey, among others (I worked at an amusement park. Famous people came through all the time. Though, I met morrissey in hollywood).

I've also had Thanksgiving dinner with Dave Duchovny. (This was before the x-files).

I went to a summer arts camp in Massachusetts. We got several reasonably famous people dropping by, so I "met" actor William Hurt. Although, got to shake his hand and say "hi" is more accurate. I also have had several close encounters with Congressman Barney Frank. Spent a few minutes talking to John Irving at the Breadloaf Writers Conference before I realized he wasn't paying attention at all.

Not especially exciting examples.

But my Kevin Bacon number is:

I went to summer camp with Jennifer Dundas.

Who was in "The Hotel New Hampshire" with Wallace Shawn.

Who was in "Toy Story" with Tom Hanks.

Who was in "Apollo 13" with Kevin Bacon.

For a Bacon number of 4.

Julius Malema (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Malema), but I'm not particularly proud of it. We exchanged some words at an ANCYL meeting in Jo'burg. He didn't strike me as too bright, but we already knew that.

Oh, and I've stumbled upon Percy Montgomery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_Montgomery) during a Blue Bulls game at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. He was watching the game with his little daughter a couple of seats away from me. I was too busy blowing my vuvuzela. :-)

Geneva hosts some of the greatest minds in the world, and one could occasionally bump into some of them on the street. That's what happened a couple years or so ago when I came across Maria Fidecaro at the opera. She's lived here since long before I was even born and she's one of the most remarkable female pioneers in modern physics. And there aren't many of them around. Lisa Randall is another name that comes to mind, she was here last year around the Planck conference in Züri. I know these names probably don't speak much to anybody but still they mean a lot.

Btw I used to regularly see some members of the Icelandic government and parliament while I lived there, they've never been too shy from walking around in public without security. Including Davíð Oddsson while he was a finance minister I think. Also Sigurjón Þórðarson, the only openly pagan adherent to the Ásatrú faith in parliament.

Well having in mind that the Althingi is just a house, one could imagine how freely the people who work there would walk around.

I sat at a table about ten yards away from Stallone in the Planet Hollywood at Disney World shortly after it had opened. I remember distinctly thinking how short he was. I didn't approach him or anything, but I did snap a picture (this was before digital photography, so I don't have it readily available to share, or else I would).

Ha, I just watched on the news that Stallone had used a Bulgarian dentist to fix all his teeth. Initially he went there to fix one tooth, but then he realized the dentist was awesome and the price was 10 times cheaper than in the US, so he sat on the chair for quite a while.

More info on the reason he was here: http://t-p-nonsense.livejournal.com/72410.html

Moby hit on me at a rave back in 94. He asked me to come back to his hotel to 'go swimming' I was all, no thanks.

Also, Jim Carrey at a bakery. He didn't hit on me, he was just getting cake. It was my friends birthday and he came over and sang happy birthday to her.

Paris is a village. Met on the street or in a restaurant or a shop :

Catherine Deneuve, Karl Lagerfeld, Juliette Gréco, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Sonia Rykiel, Paco Rabanne,
Yann Tiersen, Mathieu Amalric, Arielle Dombasle, Bernard Tapie, Daniel Auteuil, Vincent Lindon, Miossec, Romain Duris... and I'm probably forgetting others.

She was a friend of my great aunt (who as the first female professor emeritus at the University of Virginia, and the director who integrated the UVA nursing school, is sort of famous, herself), and came to Aunt Roy's funeral.

Image

Also, at a funeral in Charlottesville, her sister, Emily, died while I was serving on the 7th CD Committee of the DPVA. As I served on both the 3rd and 7th and represented VA at the Young Democrats of America, I have met a bunch of Democratic politicians, and sometime their much cooler spouses (like Linda Johnson Robb, with whom I got trashed at the Richmond Marriott).

My mother went to college with, and was friends with Red Eye's Intergalactic Correspondent, and we used to see him, in his mundane form, from time to time when I was a kid. I also used to play Necromunda at One Eyed Jacques with a bandmate of his, Hunter.

In college, I dosed a couple of times with a guy named Shark, and still occasionally run into him at One Eyed Jacques when I go home. His real name is Randy Blythe, and I have heard he is really famous, but I do not really listen to his kind of music. Here is one of his videos.

George Allen and Virgil Goode were family friends and I met them in the late seventies at Law School cook outs, (my mother and I were the first two members of my family to not go to "The University" in a hundred and fifty years - and there are many lawyers in the family).

And just to disgust badlydrawnjeff, my ex-wife and I met Cornell West at a conference in 1996, (and were introduced to each other by Mark Warner).

Cindy "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Lauper rode my duck. I wouldn't count that as "meeting" if that's all she did, but given what happened later. . . .

(No, nothing sexual, but nothing I care to share with the intertubes for the permanent record. Let's just say I did her a solid and she is a very, very, very patient and attentive mother.)

Margot Perot, when I was selling shoes at Northpark Mall in Dallas in the early 90s. She was very polite but did not buy anything.

Tommy Lee, as I was selling shoes at Valley View Mall in Dallas in the early 90s. He was buying boots for a woman who had enormous bangs and was wearing a tube top. It was winter.

Barry Scheck, at Book People in Austin, in 2000. We had a very interesting discussion about the West Memphis Three and he found out enough about me during the discussion to inscribe a loved message to me in his book. He was great. That book is now beloved to me.

Frank Black, when I was in college, in the early 90s. He was a dick.

Rob Van Winkle, or Vanilla Ice. I went to high school with him. He was a hyperactive, cute kid and is far smarter and reasonable than he seems though his later impulsivity surprised no one who attended RLT with him.

Rick Perry, in an elevator in Austin. He was predictable because he is a good ol' boy was fabulous.

Ann Richards, through a job. She was predictable because she was fabulous.

The writer Brian Keene, in 2007. He spoke to me pleasantly, much as one speaks to a frightened dog, as I was having a panic attack. He is a really nice man.

Oh, I remembered one more but I don't know if it counts as a meeting. Donald Sutherland used to walk his dog past a place I used to work at and his dog would shit on our lawn and he never cleaned it up. So one day I went out and yelled at him. It worked, I never saw him again, he must have started taking a different route.

I shared a train platform with Al Franken once. And I was riding down Amsterdam in the mid-80's and spotted Richard Belzer eating at a cafe outside. I did a double take--cause I was lookin for cars, not famous people. Upon my second look he picked up his newspaper and covered his face with it.
Definitely him though.

Oh, and a buddy of mine was fundraising and got one of the Law and Order people to give a decent contribution--but that's not my story.

oh, and I met Lewis Black.
He was principle of my school for a day.
