Korean War, Part 2?

Apparently an investigation into the sinking of a South Korean naval ship in March has concluded that North Korea had launched a torpedo into the ship. Of course North Korea denies the accusation, warning that any retaliation would trigger war.

Assuming the results of the investigation are accurate, how should South Korea respond? How WILL they respond? If all-out war finally breaks about again between the Koreas, how will it affect US/China relations? It seems unlikely that they will be drawn into the conflict, but I wouldn't bet money on either possibility.

It seems to me that without help from China, North Korea won't last very long against an all-out offensive by South Korea. Then again I'm by no means an expert. Of course as the article points out, this is hardly the first time that NK has done this sort of thing, and war hadn't broken out then either.

I'm not sure it is the same. With advances in technology we are able to communicate quicker/farther than those who came before us.

Facebook could organize a million college protesters against the draft very quickly.

That simply wasn't possible during Vietnam.

But I agree, we aren't any better or worse suited for regimentation than they were.

Oh right, the Facebook, I had forgotten that in my calculations.

Though I think you over-estimate your Facebook college friends and under-estimate the power of nationalistic propaganda. In any case, I can't imagine what sort of self-involved trust-fund baby would protest defending South Korea from North Korea. It isn't Iraq or Afghanistan. We have commitments. The idea that people will rally against this is just... well... maybe I'm too idealistic.

Nah, you are probably right.

but i do think that we are, to some extent, sick of wars.
but, it's easy enough to overcome that with some BS about national security--be it true or false

But the only reason afghan/iraq are still going, IMO, is cause there's no draft. It's volunteer military that's dying.

When vehemently anti-war families get drafted children....that'd cause uproar unlike what we have now.
