A total of 413 reactors in 32 countries, those are the current capacities of nuclear power production as of now. WNISR reports that in 2019, nuclear energy made for 10% of the world's needs for electricity. This share used to be much higher in 1996 (17.5%).
Most of these facilities were built between the late 60s and late 80s in Europe, the US, the former USSR, and Japan. Their average life-span is 31 years.
The US has the largest number of working nuclear reactors, 94. These cover about 20% of the country's energy needs. Most of them were launched before 1985, and only one in the last 20 years. In 2013, construction started on two new reactors - these are currently behind schedule, but they are expected to be launched in the next few years.
