"Republicans" and the loss

For a laugh I went to Glenn Beck's page to look at some comments on the various articles about Obama's win. Here are some choice bits:

- Texas can show the US the path to prosperity by nullifying Obamacare, creating a silver-based currency, and preventing the EPA from operating in the state. Secede if necessary. Texas' secession is inevitable, so you should move to Texas if you don't support Obama.
- Obama can now put into effect his plan to let terrorists make further attacks here.
- When Obama said "This is my last election" to Medvedev, he meant that he is going to make himself a dictator so there will be no more elections.
- Unless God intervenes, America will be destroyed within the year.
- The fact that he was re-elected means that somehow Obama can now destroy America like he's always planned.
- The root of Obama's evil is when Satan created the Federal Reserve.
- Obama couldn't have lost because 100% of people receiving food stamps and unemployment voted for him.
- Sharia law is imminent.

I remember a lot of nonsense about Bush from some on the left when he was re-elected, but I don't remember if it was this bad.

the next four years are going to be quite entertaining indeed.

That is why we vote is it not?

I would have thought we voted based on policies we agree with, but hey, since the GOP spent the last two years working for Obama to be a one-term President, I wish them equal success with all their goals for the next four years. They can keep up the good work just fine. :)

What foolishly idealistic notion.

I had you pegged as being more cynical than that.

Re-read what I said, and then you'll see that I'm just as cynical as ever. ;)

In actuality we vote because people tell us voting mattes in a democracy, even though every election states are called for candidates long before even 50% of the precints in any state are counted, but hey! It's democracy! The only alternative is IslamofascicommunaziCthulhuism!

No, not me. If anything, they need to knock off the entertaining cock-blocking, and do some real work.

[identity profile] underlankers.livejournal.com 2012-11-07 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
But how do we get them to do that? The current system is geared to deadlock, and we've already seen how this worked the last time the GOP had the House and the Dems the Senate and the Executive Branch. We also, unfortunately, have seen how effective Obama was with a super-majority in both Houses of Congress, which wasn't all that much better than how he is now. So neither the super-majority in the two decisive branches of Federal power nor the divided system work well. What other alternatives are there? Simply telling the GOP to stick its prick in the meat grinder won't work as they'd just do it and do it to spit in the eye of the Dems.

Well, I dunno what the fix is. My main point is no, I don't cast a vote for entertainment purposes. I want my government to work for our country.

[identity profile] underlankers.livejournal.com 2012-11-07 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
And as I said there's no 'work for our country' option this go-round, no matter what would have happened. And I do not think the Greens, the Socialists, the Libertarians, and especially not the Constitution Party would have made a difference there. So since there is no other option I just went with the one to produce the greatest LULZ and perhaps 2016 will see a genuine difference. Or given the current track record we'll be asked to choose between Dumb and Dumber.

There is no benefit to saying that we should hope they do something if there's no reason for them to do it. We should not let our reach exceed our grasp when it comes to politics as Heaven usually ends badly when it's a political goal.

Ok, thanks for your thoughts.

That's the brilliance of the whole thing.
