Pelosi takes on Colbert

"The Alice in Wonderland state of American politics has just reached a new level.

Nancy Pelosi, the stately, serious former House speaker released a video satire Thursday going after comedian Stephen Colbert for his super PAC.....

At the end of the video, Pelosi gets to her serious point. She is promoting the so-called DISCLOSE Act, which House Democrats are reintroducing Thursday. The DISCLOSE act would among other things require more transparency by super PACs in terms of who their donors are.
"

HAHA! Great idea, Nancy "We Have To Pass This Bill So We Can See What's In It" Pelosi! But I'd still give that vid B for concept and C for execution. Surely the almighty Democratic juggernaut (who controls the liberal media, har har) could afford something way better than that, amirite? Nice try, though. I'll give you that.

[Error: unknown template video]

Now what's left is to see how Colbert picks up this stunt and where he goes with it. He made a terrific point about the ridiculousness of the campaign donation system (super-PACs) through his elaborate series of jabs and sketches, and even the staged candidacy for "President of the United States of South Carolina" last month, which highlighted some serious flaws in the whole election system. Undisclosed money in politics and all that. Maybe if he could expand on that by bringing Pelosi's "challenge" to a new level, he could raise even more awareness on the subject. (Not that it'll change anything though, I don't think).

On a side note, political ads are always SO funny!
Except, I'd surely be glad if someone could tell me what the purpose of this was supposed to be, but I'm going on tangents now. ;)

Nancy "WHTPTBSWCSWII" Pelosi doesn't really flow does it. : \

Does she have a list of titles somewhere I'm unaware of? Herr Pelosi, Earl of San Fransisco Bay, Czarina of Congress, thane of Starbucks, duke of Bob's Bagels, etc etc.

It flows perfectly...if you're Donald Duck.

Yes, I suppose something that's not over-the-top idiotic WOULD pass for a "new level" of American politics.

I'm looking forward to the day when I'll see something remotely resembling "funny" coming from a conservative-leaning comedian. I'm not asking for too much, no need to try to emulate Colbert. ;-)

I thought Michelle Bachmann was pretty funny.

[identity profile] mahnmut.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I stand corrected. And I'd add that Delaware Wicca chick, she was awesome.

Ah, Carribou Barbie. How glad I am she is no longer poisoning the tubes.

Thank you! Most of their attempts are horrendous.

That transferring of super PAC donations looks like a painful process!

Even Jon Stewart has been in on the act as the chairperson of Colbert's SuperPAC (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-january-16-2012/colbert-super-pac---strict-separation?xrs=eml_tds).

Can't tell if you're upset about this or not.

The dog icon says it all.

You could have said "Your concern will let me rest easier knowing I have some hope for a better tomorrow - tonight."

[identity profile] mahnmut.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
(Whispering conspiratorially)... The tomorrow-tomorrow thing belongs to Colbert, methinks. (Runs back into hiding).

Super PACs - liberal or conservative - are a October surprise just waiting to happen.

[identity profile] prog-expat.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"October surprise" always sounded kinky to me somehow. Probably just my filthy mind.

[identity profile] the-rukh.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it have something to do with unexpected early snow storms?

[identity profile] prog-expat.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was trying to think of a way to work in an October Revolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_Revolution) reference, just to keep it a little political, but that quickly got into brain bleach territory.

[identity profile] kardashev.livejournal.com 2012-02-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
No. The "October Surprise" was originally a reference to a sex act which consisted of a wiccan sticking a finger up his or her partner's ass while said partner bobbed for apples on Halloween.

Hearing Dick Martin's voice made that twice as funny...and I really did laugh out loud!!

[identity profile] peristaltor.livejournal.com 2012-02-15 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
The look on President Carter's face when that happened . . . priceless.
