Hypocrisy 101: An Irishwoman Minus Poetry

There is a huge abyss dividing Celtic culture from that of Rome. The divide is as broad and profound as the way the symbols of the harp and bard differ from those of the fasces and dome. When we consider the case of Maggie Gallagher, Chair of the National Organization for Marriage, we see the sorry state of a daughter of Gael cut off from her native culture by the sharp axe of Rome. Her mission is to preserve the moldy language of rabid bigotry in order to protect a heritage that does not suit her land of origin.

Ms. Gallagher would have us turn our backs on the smallest portion of society simply for the sake of lingual despotism. She is probably the kind of person who turns her nose up at the idea that hypocrites pray in public as she shambles off to her local temple for a quick fix of the body and blood of Constantine.

Is marriage only something that can be practiced by a woman and a man? This woman seems to be wedded to an idea. How is that possible when the material Creator has told her that she can only marry a man? Has she failed to practice what she preaches? Senator Mark Grisanti has managed to divorce himself from that same idea. Perhaps she too will someday see the light and drag her ill conceived notion into the court of public opinion for a sound thrashing.

What other forms of marriage do we see being practiced besides that between a woman and a man?

I think any claim by Evangelicals to treat marriage as divinely sanctioned can be answered by pointing out how high the divorce rate among Evangelicals is. The idea that heterosexuals respect marriage is akin to believing in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.

I don't get why she was insisting the bill be killed in favor of a referendum since all she has to do if it passes is start a referendum to re-instate the one man, one woman definition.

There is something to be said in favor of a stable parental relationship. Some see marriage as the only way to achieve this. Given the legal pressures on married couples, it may not be the most ideal form of partnership to promote stability. Still, to deny the children of homosexual couples the protections afforded by marriage is to make second-class citizens of them and their principle care givers.

Marriage is a property relationship. There are those who see the source of property in a higher power. Southern slave owners professed the same source of their ownership of chattel labor.

no... marriage is not a relationship. Marriage is a contract. Husband and wife is the relationship.

Relationships are described as... son, daughter, mother, cousin, partner, spouse, friend, uncle, boss, employee, etc.

Marriage is a contract, just as lease is a contract. Some might argue it's a purchase contract, or it's an investment or an insurance contract.

By the way, did you mean to use the past-tense form of "practice?".

A contract establishes a legal relationship. Limiting the use of relationship to blood relatives will get you nowhere.

Limiting yourself to a single meaning will not serve you well.
