Introduction

I'm new here.  I was sent an invite, and I appreciate it.  I like this community's non-flaming, non-trolling all-parties attitude.  I have been avoiding posting on most of the political communities because, since I tend to be in both liberal and conservative, (and am thus libertarian) camps, I'll post to all of them if I have something to say.  Of course somebody somewhere will accuse me of trolling.

Anyway, I am a career soldier, now in the US Army reserve, and a lifelong Wiccan.  I am constitutionally conservative, and socially liberal.  Please drop by my LJ profile for more info.  Feel free to friend me as well if you like.  I have a fairly thick skin about most things and appreciate a good, reasoned argument where folks can disagree and not get their knickers in a twist about things.

While it's generally not commonplace that people would introduce themselves here (there are 900+ members, so imagine if everyone did), I say why not? Maybe some of us would like to use this thread to tell some more about themselves? Especially those who are kinda new around. I mean we talk around here most of the time but we're not so familiar with each other as we might've liked. People often bicker over policies and political convictions, and they forget that they're more similar than they might imagine. When you bring it down to a personal level we start to realize some things.

I have no doubt that some would now mock you for saying "Hi!" and would even spam you with macros, but what the hell. I'll play the game.

Me: social worker from Johannesburg. My profile says Bloody Pinko Leftieâ„¢ but I'm considered too "right" by my comrades in ANCYL, one of the more leftist organizations in my predominantly leftist dominated country. Hm, did I say predominantly? I meant totally commie-dominated! So yeah, welcome here and I hope your next post will actually contain some issue to discuss. ;-)

Oh, we do have some trolling from time to time and even some heated moments but nothing too serious. Here's a hint for you if you really want to see some people get out of their skin: it's enough to mention either the Tea Party, Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck. Oh, and also the latest elections (who won, who lost, who's feeling butthurt, etc). You're welcome. ;)

Cue macro spam in 4, 3, 2....

Ah good, another Cult of the Dead Cow follower. Welcome.

I was Wiccan for a while too. But then I grew up. :p

[identity profile] verytwistedmind.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought about being Wiccan but it would get in the way of worshiping Myself. That is also the reason I believe Obama is not a Muslim. How could you worship Allah if you were Barak Obama! That'd be bending your knee to a lesser god.

[identity profile] luvdovz.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, Allah is One, and Barack is His Prophet.

For worshiping yourself: I recommend Satanism.

[identity profile] ddstory.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
After all, Barack means Blessed.

[identity profile] geezer-also.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what we have in common. I consider myself a Reactionary Right Wing Fundie, but most of my friends think I'm too liberal (especially my wife)

[identity profile] verytwistedmind.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Allah is Barack Obama's Prophet.

I fixed it for you.

Trust me, I'm mulatto. We're your as good looking as we are narcissism is a racial sterotype for a reason.

[identity profile] rasilio.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, lets not dis wiccans, they serve a very important purpose, it lets all us non fundies identify all the easy girls ;-)

[identity profile] mahnmut.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You know that theory? It says the political spectrum is like a circle, and if you go far enough to either side, you'd end up at the opposite side. ;-)

[identity profile] mahnmut.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's generally what we aim here for, yes.

[identity profile] luvdovz.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If it doesn't involve dead animals, count me out.

[identity profile] mijan.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I like you already. I'm a Pagan UU, Army veteran (got out due to injury), socially liberal and constitutionally conservative. I hope I run into you on the comm here for some good, well-reasoned discussion. Merry meet!

[identity profile] novapsyche.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not Wiccan in the Christine O'Donnell sense of the word

I don't think anybody is.

And I'm so happy that name is fading into the sunset.

[identity profile] novapsyche.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you & [livejournal.com profile] foxglovehp explain something? I don't understand how a person could be socially liberal yet constitutionally conservative. To me, the former immediately recognizes the liberal foundation upon which the Constitution was created.

Also, when you say "constitutionally conservative", do you mean an originalist? Because that would confuse me even more.

[identity profile] novapsyche.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You might be looking for Voudou.

[identity profile] mahnmut.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sad. She could've generated so many lulz...

In a parallel universe, maybe she was elected and people were thoroughly entertained. Sadly, not in this one.

[identity profile] ddstory.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean people are entertained. It's parallel, so it's happening right now.

[identity profile] luvdovz.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn I knew there was something wrong with my Wicca.

[identity profile] roofless.livejournal.com 2010-12-01 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it means he likes to party, but is self-reliant/responsible ;)
I somewhat fall into that same category by way of my own personal life choices which seem to fall out of line with the perception of what a 'conservative' is supposed to be.

Just a bunch of mix-matched labels really.

/also here from an invite.
