Fox settlement

Fox Will Pay $787.5 Million to Settle Defamation Suit
The settlement with Dominion Voting Systems was the latest extraordinary twist in a case that exposed the inner workings of the most powerful voice in conservative news.

On a first reading, I'm disappointed that they settled. It was a slam dunk in favor of Dominion. Fox should have had to be forced, by having their stars testify, that the Big Lie was just that and Fox lied to their viewers.

On a second reading, there is no real crap shoot in the actual trial. That is a slam dunk, but the appeals would have taken years or decades of expensive litigation, and appelate judges often reduce those initial jury settlement figures dramatically.

Anyway, more to follow. Fox is also being sued by Smartmatic, and perhaps even more damaging, a class action lawsuit by shareholders.

Meanwhile, Dominion turns its attention to the PillowGuy, the noun/verb/911 guy (the one with runny hair dye), the crazy lady (Sidney Powell) and that fact-free news network (not Fox, the other one - OAN). The games continue.

Dominion Voting Systems was valued at about $50M in 2018 when Staple Street Capital acquired a 3/4 stake, so this settlement is probably quite a few times the value of the company. Clearly Fox thought the trial would go really poorly.

Know what I find kind of funny?
Since it is a court case...
SmartMatic will have access to all the discovery materials developed by Dominion...
I bet the moving trucks for all the material are already lined up to ship from Delaware to New York.
