Alexa tells 10-year-old girl to touch live plug with penny
Amazon has updated its Alexa voice assistant after it "challenged" a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug.
Ya know, it's Alexa. The voice AI software that looks for useless stuff for you cuz you're just too lazy to do it yourself. And because it's soulless software, it (she?) can't assess risk (or whatever) unless it's taught what exactly "risk" entails. Not that I know either. So there's this:

I don't think you need to have more than two brain cells that are loosely connected inside your skull to foresee how this ain't gonna end well, eh?
Except, let's not miss an important detail here. For instance, both this stupid challenge and Alexa itself (herself?) have been created and are controlled by humans. Just as the decision whether you should stick your finger into the exposed electricity grid is entirely up to you, mortal human. If you decide it's a good idea, you have two possible outcomes: either rid humankind of your potential genetic "gift" by sparing it the embarrassment to have to tolerate your future progeny among itself - or learn a lesson.
In this case the kid didn't do the stupid challenge. Then the software was updated by the producer.

You see now why I'm generally against direct democracy through referenda? Hey, let's give the ordinary schmuck the power, ain't that a nice idea? Well, let's not do that please. Having in mind exactly how smart the regular schmuck is in my country and many others around the world, yeah. I'm sure you see what I mean.
You might smirk when I say that this is how machines are gonna PWN us, but I'm more like, they're actually gonna just wait for us all to PWN ourselves. As long as such stupid challenges exist, it means there are people who do them.
As Ricky Gervais once said about how smart people truly are, you see there's this "don't drink" warning on bleach bottles, so let's do an experiment and remove that warning for, say, two years, and see what happens. And THEN let's talk about giving people power through referenda, alright?
