Watching American political mythology die in slow motion sure is something
After decades of insisting that government is the problem, not the solution, and that Jesus Christ is a magical Jewish sky fairy to kiss all wounds and make them better, the USA is learning the exact same lesson its fellow superpower did. Reality doesn't give two shakes of a rat's ass what a national mythology says, it will merrily steamroll it in an overpowering lesson in how all ideologies fail, ossify, and die.
After turning George W. Bush into a liberal for a much smaller stimulus in a wholly different context, and Obama into Josef Stalin in blackface for the same thing, the US Republican Party has been forced kicking and screaming into the largest simulus in American history, precisely because the US economy is such a rotten edifice that a mere month of quarantine punts it by the gonads first into an abyss of its own making.

And on a personal note, my state in the USA is keeping up its streak of being first in the shit and last in the good.
It has one of the highest per capita rates in the world right now (any day now New York state will no doubt knock Louisiana to number two or three, because the governor here did impose a lockdown earlier, while New York state piddled around until the fucking Beervirus got into the fucking schools in NYC). Mardi Gras in New Orleans may be to blame in it, and it's spreading in urban areas like Shreveport, my home town, and New Orleans first and rippling outward in an exercise quite morbid and horrifying to watch.
The people here include a great many simple minded baboons incapable of grasping the most rudimentary biology and physics as something other than a conspiracy theory against magical zombie Jewish Sky Fairy, so naturally they told the CDC to fuck off with Beervirus right up until the spikes started in New Orleans and the governor imposed a lockdown, which of course was too goddamned late. I absolutely fucking loathe this state, and if I could get every recipe from here in a book, I'd take it with me and have nuclear weapons annihilate the state so utterly that in millennia to come nothing of its existence would be preserved for all time and nothing of value would be lost.
It's a backward culture that doesn't even belong in medieval times, let alone modern times, with all the worst vices of both. And because of that, because of ALL OF THAT, these dumb fuck jackasses have succeeded in once again making this state look every bit as stupid as it actually is on a global stage with an even bigger bodycount than the David Duke fetishism targeting black people produces, for a relative change of pace.

I am utterly and completely furious at seeing my state literally childishly kick and flail on the carpet at being told to save the lives of its own citizens, knowing these people have guaranteed that people will die, and they will die horribly. All because some stupid jackass morons wanted to 'muh Jesus and muh beer drinking in muh beer halls.'
Well, they went and got exactly what they said they wanted, the fucking morons. They have damned themselves at minimum to suffering, and other people too, because unlike the phantom hordes of spectral Muslims barking medieval slogans and quietly wielding the most modern weaponry and technology for medieval aims and not noticing the contradiction there, they have invited the manner of their deaths and ensured for too many people it will be the most terrible. A slow death, a bad death where drowning on dry land alone is the outcome chosen for too many people, from a virus that evolves at almost a science fiction rate, in a pattern that manages to make each new iteration worse than the one before it.
