The most common words that people don't know how to spell in every US state.

More accurately, this map shows the word that residents of each state Google along with the phrase "how to spell" most frequently, indicating that they're confused about how it's spelled.

Wow, West Virginians are so smart! It took 20+ letters to bring them down! =)

I bet the people of R.I. know how to spell "liar". There may be another reason for that being the most googled.

It says they google "how to spell xxxxx", they don't google "xxxxx".

A bunch don't know how to spell lair and are being miscounted because of it.

I accept that, but even so, there appears an ironic element in even googling how to spell liar. There are only a few ways of misspelling it even when being especially creative. And R.I. happens to be one of the wealthiest and best educated states in the Union.

It seems wrong in context without there being some other reason for it. Which is not to say that I'm correct in my snap-judgement; merely that it bears greater scrutiny. Obvs I'll do some investigating and report back when I have a moment.

They could have just used 'den' instead. (But that could also be confused for 'then'. Oh damn...)

Then "den" might have been the most misspelled word for their state, think how embarrassing that'd be.

Anomalous points or spikes on a curve tend to have explanations; it's finding them.

Though I must admit, this looks like more time-wasting than it merits. And I have a pot on a pedal to change and line-testing of my rig to do before work tomorrow. This looks like a post-gig wind down exercise at 3am Saturday night/Sunday morning. Unless I have better things to do after the gig, of course; being a Saturday night. You get home and it's 3am by the time you've unloaded... and you can't sleep... [lightbulb moment] I know, I'll argue with folk on the interwebs...
