The Don brings the Bern!

Funny how everyone hated the TPP, but now it's straight from Jesus since Trump killed it and they are suddenly finding how good it was. The destruction of protective laws, the environment, and worker's rights by corporations and other talking points are now totally forgotten, eh?

Which is not to say that Trump isn't being typically stupid and short-sighted about it all. Shall I predict exactly how much effort he had put into studying the TPP before scuttling it? Better not.

The thing is, he's in such a hurry to get adulation from his fans, that he ignores the long-term consequences. Dropping TPP essentially gives China a wide open field for its own East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. That's the big problem with Trump (among many others): he is one-dimensional in his thinking. He can only see the possible short-term loss of jobs and not the long-term consequences of turning Asia completely over to China.

Someone please alert Sen. Bernie Sanders about the great news, because he and most of his supporters didn't like the TPP at all. Turns out Bernie is ultimately on the same page like Trump on TPP. Feel the Bern, yo!

No worries, the US will counteract China by destabilizing the Third World yet again, now that the latest Trump-related shenanigans have successfully served as a distraction from a potential withdrawal from the UN (if the reports are true (http://www.businessinsider.com/american-sovereignty-restoration-act-us-withdraw-un-2017-1)).

What's curious is that this is happening in the GOP-controlled House, without much ado and without too many people noticing (everyone's too occupied with Trump's shenanigans after all, remember?)

The consequence of such a move? More wars in minor countries. Particularly in Africa. China has been advancing there for a while, right? Well, they have to be countered at any cost, right?

Nobody is paying much attention because this kind of bill comes up every few years. One of the functions of the House is to ensure everyone's crazy, drunk uncles feel like they are represented.

DQ.

Trump is already upping the ante for those islands in the South China Sea. Bluff or serious intention, this is bound to raise the tensions there.

Well, Trump's nominees have already established quite some record of contradicting their boss, so I wouldn't put too much meaning into this. I mean, what they say might be one thing; what he intends to do (if he knows what he's doing at all, that is), is quite another.

No problem, the Donald will tweet this away into oblivion, like he's done with so many other gaffes.

Bernie was against the TPP and Clinton was against it, well, after being for it, but that's another issue. Regardless of who won, it seems the TPP was dead... unless of course someone was fibbing.

As far as the long term consequences, China is going to be having a huge impact in Asia going forward. But then Japan already has a huge impact and India will have a huge impact at some point. The American people were pretty clear that they wanted those jobs instead of keeping China from having it's way in Asia.

Clinton "evolved" on the issue :)
