So, Republicans -- What's the Next Step?
There's been some discussion here about the right wing response to the shocking, I tell you, SHOCKING re-election of President Obama and the over-the-top reaction we've been seeing. A lot of it has involved personal idiocies from Freeper vowing everything from cutting off disabled Obama supporting relatives from support (I kid you not) divorcing spouses, spitting on neighbors, moving into bunkers, etc.
And there have been some hints of payback from people actually in a position to hurt either Obama supporters or perceived Obama supporters. The CEO of the same coal company that forced employees to spend a day without pay listening to a Romney speech laid off over a hundred employees on November 9th after publicly reading an unctuous and insulting "prayer," and on Thursday a man claiming to be a business owner in Georgia called C-Span and boasted about cutting employee hours and laying off two people because of the election. “I tried to make sure the people I laid off voted for Obama,” he said.
The fact remains -- Obama won.
Attempts at limiting the franchise and making it hard to vote didn't help Republicans. It just pissed off a lot of voters to the point where they were willing to stand in line for seven hours to vote for a Democrat. Threatening to fire employees if Obama were re-elected didn't help Republicans. It just highlighted the insidious damage Citizens United has done to our political environment. Attacking blacks, women, gays, and hispanics didn't work. It just galvanized a large portion of black, gay, female, hispanic, etc. voters into fighting Republicans.
So my question is, Republicans, what's the next step?
A couple of weeks ago, Frank Rich wrote a piece in Salon about the fact that losing an election does not seem to make the Republicans reassess their extended march to the right. They just double down and march further to the right.
Is that what's going to happen, Republicans? Because I have to tell you, you've been marching to the right for so many years you're on the verge of stepping off one hell of an ideological cliff. Are you going to openly embrace the genteel racism of Charles Murray? Are you going to openly work to limit the vote only to people of a certain income level? Is the aim going to be disenfranchising large portions of the public and telling the rest, "vote for us or we'll fire you?"
Just curious.

Stacey Dash and Melissa Joan Hart received death threats after voicing their support for Obama.
Jenna Jameson was called a whore and a slut by people from the same party that was so against women being called whores and sluts.
Evan Longoria (Obama's election co-chair) said minorities and women who vote for Romney are "stupid".
Not to mention there were people threatening to assassinate Romney days before Election Day.
So what of that?
It's obvious when you look at how they treat people of color, LGBT people, women and other minorities. - Yeah, that's why Republicans blocked the first five Civil Rights Acts from being passed. Oh wait, that was Democrats. My mistake. If you read up on your history, the first African-Americans in Congress (http://factreal.wordpress.com/2010/07/23/history-the-first-blacks-in-congress-were-all-republicans-photos-bios/) were Republicans. The first woman in Congress (http://womenincongress.house.gov/member-profiles/profile.html?intID=202) was a Republican. Republicans also had the first openly LGBT Presidential candidate in Fred Karger. So please, tell me how intolerant the Republicans are when we have groups within the party that represent a wide spectrum of people.
It's even more obvious when you look at the targeted voter disenfranchisement they attempted this election. - Obvious? GOP election monitors were being chased out of polling places when they were elected to be there. One of them was actually chased out of a polling place by a man claiming he had a gun. The real voter disenfranchisement had nothing to do with race but population. If you look at the election results by county, Romney had the vote. Problem is the bigger cities ruled the elections, and that hardly seems fair.
I wasn't surprised in the least to hear of Republicans laying off workers and otherwise pulling nasty, vindictive bullshit in the wake of Obama's reelection - there were messages going around that night and the next day for women and, particularly, people of color to stay indoors because angry Republicans might hurt or harass them, for fuck's sake. - Where were these "messages"? I never heard anything like that. I saw a lot of disappointed people on Facebook and Twitter but no threats at Obama voters, save for that one lunatic in Nebraska that threatened to kill any who came to her home after inviting them.
They run on a platform of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, and murder. It doesn't get much plainer than that. - WTF?!? I do believe it was the NAACP who called for the UN to monitor polling places, Obama who ran on a platform of telling women to "vote like their lady parts depend on it", and Obama flip-flopping on his position on marriage equality. When he ran in Illinois, he was for it. When he ran for POTUS in 2008, he was against it. Then when he ran for re-election in 2012, he was suddenly for it again. He needs to make up his damn mind and people were gullible enough to eat his tripe with a spoon!

Celebrities get that shit all the time. I'll believe they were legit when someone proves it. And yeah, people tend to see people who vote directly counter to their own interests as.. well, ignorant to say the least. I got nothing there.
And lol, I never saw one single instance of someone threatening to assassinate Romney. EVER. And I am all over this shit. That's bullshit. Even if it's not? It's NOTHING to the countless Republicans who have threatened to assassinate President Obama. And his wife. And his daughters.
So please, tell me how intolerant the Republicans are when we have groups within the party that represent a wide spectrum of people.
Because your party has changed in the last hundred years, and if you think the Republicans of today are REMOTELY the same as the Republicans who passed those Civil Rights Acts, you're so ignorant and wrong it's laughable. Republicans run on a PLATFORM of denying minorities their rights. Women, LGBT people, people of color, the whole nine. Also, look in the audience of a Republican rally sometime - you won't see many nonwhite faces.
If you look at the election results by county, Romney had the vote.
No, he didn't. Obama had the popular vote as well as the electoral vote by a landslide. Cities are given more weight because, SHOCKINGLY, they have more people in them. That should be obvious. If there's a county with four hundred people living in it in rural Maine, should it be given the same weight as, say, New York City? No. That would be deeply unfair to the people of New York City. Welcome to democracy.
Obvious?
Yes.
GOP election monitors were being chased out of polling places when they were elected to be there. One of them was actually chased out of a polling place by a man claiming he had a gun.
I've seen literally no confirmation of that anywhere but Fox News. Literally none. And compare: Democrats had their voter registrations thrown in the garbage, hidden, buried by Republicans. Received official paperwork and official-looking paperwork and phone calls telling them voting was on a different day than it was. Received phone calls telling them they could just vote over the phone when they couldn't (from Republicans!). Had voting machines malfunction to give Romney a vote when Obama was selected. Had Republicans at polling centers denying them the right to vote for no reason whatsoever. Had Republicans bullying them at the polls. Republicans demanded a woman offering free aid to people in need of Chinese language interpreting be thrown out of the polling place because they felt she was conning people into voting Obama. Oh, and let's not forget Republican lawmakers in Florida purposely fucking with the early voting rules and closing the early voting places early in order to prevent people who might vote Democrat from voting. Oh, and calling people who might vote Democrat and telling them to go somewhere to vote that wasn't where they could vote. And on, and on, and ON.
Where were these "messages"?
Mostly on Tumblr and Twitter.
WTF?!?
Republicans are against women's rights (abortion, birth control, equal pay, hate crimes legislation, etc. etc.), gay rights (marriage, hate crimes legislation, protection from bullying, protection from harassment and unfair treatment, protection from being fired or penalized at work for being gay, etc. etc.), rights for people of color (hate crimes legislation, affirmative action, etc. etc.), rights for workers (unionizing, ability to strike, health care, etc. etc.), the poor (health care, welfare, worker's rights, disability, etc. etc.), and more. Are you going to deny that Republicans run on a base of denying women their basic bodily autonomy and rights, denying gay people the right to marry, and so on? Because if you did, you'd be a liar.
He needs to make up his damn mind
He did. And for the record, Obama was for civil unions the entire time. Thankfully, he has come around and is fully pro-gay marriage now.
Unlike Republicans. At all. Hmmm.
Republicans: The Party of Bigotry.

Bottom line: You have some serious blinders on. I've included links to death threats, suicide encouragements, and wishes of rape made against Romney supporters and even Paul Ryan's wife. Also included links to articles proving a lot of points of which you've chosen to be willfully ignorant, including your "Republicans: The Party of Bigotry" claim. Enjoy!

Oh, and jsyk, first of all, yes, the Republican platform is really fucking homophobic (http://www.hrc.org/the-truth-about-mitt-romney/about-mitt-romney#.UJ9Wu1tsLeU). Further, Republicans basically oppose every good thing that comes through Congress (http://stfuconservatives.tumblr.com/post/33437579605), including the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. Gonna tell me how Republicans somehow magically aren't homophobes now?
And no, I'm not going to spend the next six hours digging up links and shit for things that you should already know about, but aren't seeing because you're too biased to give a shit about the many, many ways Republicans are ripping apart women's rights, gay rights, and the rights of every other minority group in the country. I've got better things to do - I'm getting up early to catch Skyfall again.
Cheers.

Oh, and jsyk, first of all, yes, the Republican platform is really fucking homophobic. - I don't disagree that the Republican platform is homophobic. Of course, it's not representative of every Republican voter.
Further, Republicans basically oppose every good thing that comes through Congress (http://stfuconservatives.tumblr.com/post/33437579605)... - Oh look - you're using a Tumblr account called "STFU, Conservatives" as a legitimate source of information. How precious.
Gonna tell me how Republicans somehow magically aren't homophobes now? - It's not a matter of Republicans "magically" not being homophobes. This isn't Lucky Charms. You accepted that Obama's views changed, and I presented you with information that the views of Republicans have changed toward marriage equality. You can either take it or leave it but the bottom line is that the facts are against you.
And no, I'm not going to spend the next six hours digging up links and shit for things that you should already know about... - I didn't spend six hours. Took me all of twenty minutes to compose my post.
...but aren't seeing because you're too biased to give a shit about the many, many ways Republicans are ripping apart women's rights, gay rights, and the rights of every other minority group in the country. - Says the person with blinders on to Democrats and their misogyny, but do go on.
I've got better things to do - I'm getting up early to catch Skyfall again. Priorities. LMAO

Then again, my note for you indicates that you're anti-woman, so... - I really couldn't give two shits what your note about me indicates. I've dealt with you and your issues before - no skin off my teeth.

Ah, that chestnut never gets old.
Oh, wait. It was old the day after you said it for the first time.
So please, tell me how intolerant the Republicans are when we have groups within the party that represent a wide spectrum of people.
The Republicans are AMAZINGLY intolerant, and don't represent a wide spectrum of people. And Fred Karger, really? You must be joking.
The rest of your post is given the regard due it.
