Russian orthodoxe church

Just now russian officials are talking about church in schoole. Many russian orthodoxes want church to be in schole, but Russia is the country with many religions. So they decided to study in schole different religions and not as religions, but as culture. And yet we have "Basis of orthodoxe culture". This is an experience to study religion in irreligious society. I have up my mind and i think there is no point in arguing. It is very interesting and useful idea.

OK.

I am not going to use my Crazy Ivan macro here until I find out more about what you mean. This is, in some ways, a perpetual argument here in the US. Have they literally started teaching Orthodox theology in public schools? It seems to me an irreligious society could do a lot worse than study Orthodoxy, even as a cultural artifact.

In lieu of a possible misunderstanding:

I might wanna take a look at the textbook. They're gonna have textbooks, right? It would make it altogether more clear as to what they're driving at.

It seems like every day it's April Fool's Day for Russian posters.

I'm not a believer myself, but I agree that students should get at least some basic education about the religions around them.

Interesting topic. But we still haven't heard your opinion: should religion be taught in school?

Well if there's no point in arguing, i guess it's macro time!

... we have a significant Russian speaking population. We have a few Russian Orthodox churches, as well. In fact, I've purchased quite a few books on the Church Fathers from a Russian Orthodox bookstore.

It's too bad we don't have a comparative religion class in our public schools. It would probably help youngsters to better understand the other cultures that they find present in their own city.

As for teaching orthodoxy in Russian schools, that's what churches are for. If they can't get people to come in to their programs, perhaps they should consider the Buddy Christ (http://louisebowmanonline.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/buddy_christ.jpg).
