It's complicated because as with any civilization there's also the ongoing internal dialogue (or struggle) over what that moral and philosophical heritage actually is, so you can't really mount an effective argument on some movement being authentically this or inauthentically that without first having declared the larger debate closed at least in your own mind. That's the step I'm wary of.
