In 2009, Car and Driver got close to 200 miles of range out of the Honda. Far short of Honda's promise, but not bad at all when compared to most battery electrics on the market today.
Once upon a time there wasn't a fueling infrastructure for internal combustion engines either. California seems well positioned to be a test market for fuel cell cars, as is Europe. It doesn't have to be capable of doing a cross country drive to be viable for the way most people drive.
