You seem to be asking the car to do something that is far ahead of the community design. Sure, one fed into the other, but speaking as a parent of young children who is lucky enough to live in a city, if I were in the suburbs, I'd be very wary of having the family car plugged in and unable to do much if we ever repeated my daughter waking up at 3 am with 105 degree fever and neck pain. You're talking about needing to change communities before the people with resources to own vehicles are going to be very willing to own one car without range extension capability.
