One of my favorite lines from A Hundred Years of Solitude is mention of the pirate Sir Francis Drake. Heroes in one culture are often seen as pirates on the other side of the frontier. Since the Holy Roman Empire was built on land piracy, it makes sense that Mises and Hayek harbored the values that they did.
